Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Start At Anytime?

Our FREE introductory class is held on the first  Saturday of every month at 12 noon.  It runs between an hour and an hour and a half and gives you a taste of what regular classes are like.  If you enjoy what we do and want to join you can do so at that time and begin training on the next Monday evening class.

Do I Have To Be In Shape?

No. That’s a little bit like asking to I have to be flexible to do yoga. We will get you in shape at the same time that we teach you to take care of yourself. If you’re over 40 it’s a good idea to get your doctor’s approval. Keep in mind we have a “honeymoon” period for the first month where you can take as many breaks as you want/need.

Is It Safe?

As safe as we can make it for our students yes. In over 30 years of teaching I have never had a serious accident in class. Of course we are learning to fight so there will be bumps and bruises along the way.  FYI the most dangerous sports in the world are Horseback riding, Cheer Leading and Gymnastics.  Included in the top ten are Bull Riding, Boxing and Football as well as Motocross, Rugby and Wrestling. We’re not even in the top ten.

Are There Age Limits?

Yes. We have our Adult Classes which are for anyone 18 and above as well as our Teen Classes which are for those 12 to 18 years old. We do not teach children due to the nature of the material.  If you’re over 40 we highly recommend getting the all clear from your doctor as our training can be intense.

What Do I Wear?

Your joining fee includes the official KM LKN t-shirt which you must wear to every class. Other than that you wear what’s comfortable such as sweat pants, BDUs and trainers.  Occasionally clothes get torn during training so cheaper is better.

Do I Have To Sign A Contract?

No. Absolutely not. The only thing we require is a fund transfer from your bank for your monthly fee. We do not want to have to chase people for payment every month. You can take a break from training anytime, let us know and we’ll cancel the transfer. That’s it. Couldn’t be easier.  We have a ton of other options to join as well which we’ll cover in class.  Just pick the one you’re most comfortable with.

How Long Will It Take?

That depends on the individual. Some people pick up things quickly – you’ve no doubt heard the term natural athlete – other people take a little longer.   It doesn’t really matter as long as you’re improving each class and getting something from each session.  Because we’re not preserving an art form as often happens in traditional martial arts training we do tend to get through the program a lot faster than they do.

Are There Belts?

No. While one Krav Maga organization has opted to use colored belts they are a Japanese creation used originally in the sport of Judo. We use different colored t-shirts to differentiate between the levels.

Are There Any Women Training?

Yes, about 35 to 40% of the class is comprised of women.  Krav Maga is perfectly suited for females who wish to learn how to defend themselves.
