Filipino Martial Arts (commonly called Kali, Arnis or Eskrima) focuses on weapons first, empty hands second because they live in a weapons based culture. We're seeing that culture becoming more prevalant here in the US hence incorporating this incredible practical art.
Our program is built for adults who want practical, pressure-tested skills that actually transfer to real-world self-defense
Gone are the years of an argument being between two men who would agree to meet behind the gym after school for a man to man fight under the rules of the Marquis de Queensberry.
Now, more than ever, you're likely to be jumped by more than one attacker, someone armed, or, in a worst case scenario, armed, multiple attackers.
Most martial art programs aren't addressing this. BJJ teaches you to fight one person at a time and there's no weapons involved. MMA? The same. One unarmed opponent who weighs exactly what you do.
Traditional martial arts that teach weapons usually teach 15th century farm tools like nunchakus, tonfas and sai.
Reality will be machetes, baseball bats, pool cues, chair legs, and knives.
Kali addresses this gap directly by training:
Distance & Timing
Angles of Attack
Weapon Awareness & Control
Decision Making Under Pressure
This isn't about collecting techniques, or looking pretty. It's about surviving chaos.

Kali isn't taught here as a "traditional art" or cultural performance.
It's trained as a functional weapons based framework that directly supports modern self-defense and Krav Maga principles
Weapons training:
Improves Reaction Speed
Sharpens Movement Under Stress
Makes Empty-Hand Defense More Honest
Forces Realism Into Training
Levels Up The Playing Field With Regards To Force Disparity
Staves Off Alzheimers
When you understand and train with weapons, your empty hand skills stop being theoretical.
1. Weapons First
You'll train with impact weapons, edged weapons and improvised weapons to understand:
Distance and Range
Timing & Entry
Angles of Attack
And To Improve Your Empty Hand Training
This builds awareness most people neve develop
2. Pressure, Not Performance
Training moves from structured drills to controlled resistance and free flowing
No choreography. No compliance. No pretending
You learn to function when things don't go to plan, because often they won't.
3. Transfer To Empty Hand
The skills don't stay in your hands
They change how you move, react and make decisions under pressure
That's why Kali makes Krav Maga stronger
This is not a traditional martial art, and that's intentional. Most traditional arts teach that a weapon is an extension of your hand, so you should train your empty hand first and only then, put a weapon in it.
The Filipinos believe if you're going to fight with weapons, you should start training with them immediately.
Different approach but indisputably effective.
What else is different?:
No Forms, No Dances, No Performance Art
Adult-Only, Real-World Training
Integration With Modern Self-Defense Principles
Serious Art For Quiet Professionals
If you're looking for belts, uniforms, theoretical nonsense, sport combat or demonstrations, this is NOT for you!!
If you're looking for competence, it is

This is a good fit for you if:
Already Train Krav Maga or Want Realistic Self-Defense
Care More About Efficacy Than Tradition
Understand That Weapons Change Everything
Want Skills That Work Outside of The Ring or Cage
This is not a good fit for you if you:
Want Performance Based Martial Arts
Are Uncomfortable Training With Weapons
Are Looking For A Kid's Program
Prefer Theory Over Pressure
Want To Look Pretty
Want To Compete In Tournaments & Take Home Trophies
Because weapons awareness shouldn't be optional
This program exists to fill a gap most self-defense training ignores
Our students don't train Kali to look impressive. They train to understand violence at a deeper level
That understanding carries over into everything else you do
There will be an option to be ranked with a national organization that traces its lineage back to Dan Inosanto. Dan is one of Bruce Lee's original training partners and is considered to be one of the most knowlegeable martial artist on the planet.
Classes will be lead by Nick Hughes, Chief Instructor of Krav Maga LKN.
Nick has trained Kali with the likes of Jeff Espinous, Bobby Breen, Pat O'Malley, Hock Hockheim, William McGrath, Bobby Taboada, Ray Dianaldo and Filipino Legionnaires during his time with the French Foreign Legion.
